ArielleMartin: Hello fellow bloggers and readers! My name is Arielle Martin and I am a Visual Arts Student at the University of Western Ontario, located in London, Ontario, Canada. I am caught living in today's youth generation, complicated with the definitions of today's Hipster. I claim to be unique, but what hipster doesnt? Before I confuse myself with the definitions of my identity, it interests me to go back in time and expose a generation, a very defiant subculture, that may have helped shape the Hipster culture I live within, yet try to oppose everyday--The Beat Generation. The very definition of hipsterism is complicated with a juxtoposition--a unique mainstream as I see it. It makes absolutely no sense, yet somehow it does. It rises from the youth culture, it manifests itself in our identity, and it survives via the masses that engage, consciously or unconsciously, with the hipster doctrine. By exposing the Beat Generation, clues to what hipsterism is today may surface. So to begin, this blog with dissect and expose the Beat Generation and attempt to bridge the gap of time between this generation and the Hipster culture found amongst today's youth.
